It's hard to know what to get your loved one in a nursing home when that special occasion comes around.

1. Hire a secretary to visit your parents once a week/fortnight/month to write letters, print emails, send birthday cards or even run errands. 

2. Dig out the shoeboxes of photos.

3. Plan a shindig or celebration.

4. Organize volunteer visits

5. Subscription to a local newspaper or a favorite magazine

6. Gift certificates to a taxi cab service, favorite restaurant or coffee shop

7. Donation to a church, charity, or health organization

8. Home Made Gift certificates

9. Gift certifcates to a beauty parlour or health spa

10. A gift card to their local community Centre
